What Is Granular Pool Salt?

Granular pool salt (Sodium Chloride) is specially formulated for use in salt chlorine generators and salt water pool systems. When dissolved in pool water, this salt enables your chlorinator to produce chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) on site, helping to keep water clean, clear and sanitised without needing to store traditional chlorine products.

How to Use Granular Salt

Adding the correct amount of salt is essential for your salt chlorinator to function properly. Once your pool water is filled and balanced:

Step 1 – Calculate Required Salt Level

Use a pool volume calculator or your manufacturer’s guide to determine how much salt you need to reach the recommended ppm (parts per million) level for your system.

Step 2 – Add Salt

Slowly pour the salt into the pool water around the deep end, allowing it to dissolve naturally. Do not add all salt directly at the chlorinator inlet to avoid cell damage.

Step 3 – Circulate and Test

Run your pump for several hours and then test the water to ensure the correct salt level is reached and evenly distributed.

Safety and Handling

Store salt bags in a dry, cool place away from moisture. Always handle salt with clean dry hands and avoid mixing with other pool chemicals directly. Refer to product safety information for full guidelines.
